]]> Wed Aug 6 2008 Summers Lane a fictitious area in central England, situated on a busy mainline featuring passenger and heavy freight traffic. http://donyattmodelrailwaygroup.fotopic.net/c1325139.html The layout itself is an oval, with the fiddle yard at the rear and sides. Now let’s take a journey around the layout, from the left, the mainline appears from underneath the road bridge, which is the access route to the industrial units at the back of the layout. Alongside is an old disused signal box and the river which passes underneath the freight access point. The area behind the mainline was an old depot which has been flattened and reused. As you will see, some of the land has been reused by the railway and some turned into industrial units. Here you will see some local DMU’s gain access to a newly reopened branch line, which sees a moderate service. Also there are some holding sidings for loco’s to be held in addition to the ones in the yard. At the front of the layout you can see the expanse of the freight yard where various freight trains are stabled whilst changing crews, locos or just passing through. There is stabling for a few locos but as of yet no refueling point. Finally we get to the other end and this time the mainline and freight yard disappear under a rail bridge, where a gang of workmen can be seen working on the track. ]]> Fri Jul 13 2007 Morris Junction a delightful preserved railway http://donyattmodelrailwaygroup.fotopic.net/c1323020.html Morris Junction History:- After Dr Beaching’s axe, another branch line closed here. The mainline continues past the old signal box and here too this was a scene of a landslide that engulfed a second line, thus the main line exist as a single track only now. Today:- After a lot of hard work and commitment another heritage railway comes back to life. Reestablishing the old branch line station, and engine shed. Clearing the track bed and laying track and signal box. With all that done they now are proud to put on a steam and diesel gala here at MORRIS JUNCTION. We hope you find it interesting. The mainline split here from the platform lines, so the middle lines through the centre of the station are used as avoiding lines and pass under th footbridge linking the main platform to the island platform. The main station building has been rebuilt, with a new building a few years ago, but the island platform building has only just been knocked down and the clearing up process is nearly finished and rebuilding is about to start. The station has four bay platforms, of which only three are now used for branch lin passenger trains. In front of the station is a small freight yard, where some trains are split for the local distridution company. The yard is connected to the mainline via a freight avoiding line, where alsorts of freight trains can be seen held awaiting crew changes, loco change or just waiting for the next available path. At the left hand end of the station you will see a bay platform used to store loco’s awaiting for there next turn of duty. Finally we get to the other end, where the platform lines rejoin the through lines, before the mainline passes under a road bridge, also the branch line disappears under a separate road bridge. In between the branch line and mainline a small yard can be seen, now used to store engineering wagons etc. At the front of the layout a warehouse can be seen. HST in trouble !! Chard St. James after refurbishment, the builders still haven’t finished ! Layout’s are never finished !! What's going on here ? 37 697 waiting its next turn
